Obituary for Lance H.Ruble
Lance Haven Ruble, age 67 of La Crosse passed away on January 22, 2014 at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born to Winfred and Elizabeth (Jack) Ruble in San Diego, California on November 6, 1946. Lance was joined in marriage to Sue Dawes on September 2, 1989 in La Crosse. Lance enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving 3 tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot in the first Air Cavalry, having been shot down twice and crashing once due to mechanical failure and after battling cancer four times in his life, Lance was a true survivor. He spent his career as the owner and operator of Heirloom Restorations in La Crosse, restoring fine furniture. His hobbies included model railroading, golfing, and watching old movies.
Lance is survived by his wife, Sue, mother, “Jackie” Robles of El Cajon, CA, stepdaughter, Jennifer (Keith) Goddard of Kingwood, TX, stepson, Thad (Erin) Rankin of Menominee Falls, WI, sister, Lisa Robles of El Cajon, CA, sister-in-law, Kris (Joe) Bernhardt of La Crosse, brothers-in-law, George (Carol) Dawes of Sun Prairie, WI, Charles (Barb) Dawes of Nekoosa, WI, and John (Patty) Dawes of La Crosse, grandchildren, Nate and Hannah Goddard, Cameron Rankin, and Taylor Keys, several Nieces and Nephews, and many good friends, especially Jan and Bill Stuckey who supported him for many years.
Lance was preceded in death by his father, Winfred who died in the Korean Conflict when Lance was 6 years old.
The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Michael Case and Dr. Patrick Conway and to the excellent staff who cared for Lance in Oncology at the Gundersen Medical Center.
A memorial visitation will be held at Dickinson Family Funeral Home (1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse) on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with military honors concluding the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Lance is someone I always looked up to. He had a way about him that boasted confidence. I admired the way he cared for Sue, their children, and grandchildren. Although he is greatly missed, he will be forgotten. Lou
