Jim was my 8th grade school science teacher at Holy Trinity . He instilled a love for the outdoors and nature in me that I still hold onto in my life to this day . I had the blessing in my life to find where he lived here in La Crosse and had a chance not once but twice to Go deer gun hunting with him , where he harvested 2 deer in both times out with us . I frequently took him wild game and fish to his house when he no longer could hunt or fish due his failing health . I learned from Jim all about Digital cameras and especially Wildlife Photography techniques where we both shared a love for the ‘Wild things” around us , ( Sorry I’m tearing up as I type this ) . Never satisfied with just one picture , Jim said to take a bunch cause you may only get one or 2 you really like . His outdoor Photography has been published in many newspapers and leading outdoor magazines like Outdoor life , and Sports afield . Jim and I were close friends , I sent him the Pic of the Timber Rattlesnake last year to confirm it’s species . Jim’s style of Teaching was certainly unique , but to those like me who got it , and learned his listening lessons , turned many of us into listeners and not always talkers . He said it was more important to listen to what someone says instead of thinking what you yourself are gonna say next . Jim’s love for fishing and teaching has made me the fisherman I am today . I’am proud to say I have known one of the greatest science teachers , outdoorsman , Wildlife photographers , and friends in my life . My life is a little empty today with this sad news , but I know his legacy and love of the outdoors will carry on in me , and i will think of him often every time , I’m out where I can feel alive , in the great outdoors . I will miss you Jim , I guess now I have an Outdoor’s Guardian Angel , and there is nothing wrong with that . ! 0:) Like · · Promote · Share

Many good memories of time with Jim, his family and his siblings. We were connected through APO and the things happenings at UW-L way back when. Jim’s interest and connection with nature held strong until the end. Peace to him!

When I was in grade school, Jim was my science teacher. For the past 15 years or so we were friends. He helped strengthen my love for the outdoors at an early age, and also captured it on film. I fished and hunted with Jim and I cherish the pictures he gave to me and my family. I’ll miss seeing his new photos and reading his articles. But most of all I will miss him.
