Obituary for Ronald M. Burfield
Ronald “Ron” M. Burfield, 82, of Houston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025.
Ron was born on October 5, 1942, and grew up in Houston, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and the community that would always feel like home. After moving to Waterloo, Iowa, Ron spent many years working as a machinist with John Deere. Following his retirement, he returned to Houston, where he dedicated his time, energy, and heart to the town he cherished.
Ron had a soft spot for animals and a deep appreciation for nature. He was known for his unique humor, quick wit, and ability to bring smiles to those around him—whether lifelong friends or complete strangers. A true steward of local history, Ron enjoyed researching and carefully preserving the stories of Houston County. He spent countless hours compiling records and creating binders to share with others, ensuring that the history of his hometown would be remembered and accessible to generations to come.
He also gave generously of his time, volunteering at community events and always offering a helping hand whenever it was needed.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Jim) Armstrong; his son, Chuck (Sheila) Burfield; and his beloved grandchildren, Riley, Megan, and Baihly.
Ron will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and his devotion to family, friends, and community. His legacy lives on in the stories he preserved, the people he touched, and the hometown he loved.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at the American Legion Post 423 (121 South Grant Street, Houston MN 55943) on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
