Obituary for Edwin "Ed" Trotter
Edwin “Ed” Trotter, a beloved father, educator, and artist, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, at the age of 93, in Brookdale Assisted Living near his daughter. He was born on March 21, 1932, to Carl and Mildred Trotter.
Ed’s life was marked by a deep commitment to service, learning, and creativity. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, attending Montana State University on the GI Bill. He later earned his Master’s degree in education from Cal Poly, a testament to his lifelong dedication to learning and personal growth. For many years, Ed was a cherished figure in schools, serving with distinction as both a teacher and principal. His passion for education touched countless lives, shaping young minds and inspiring future generations.
In his retirement, Ed discovered a new passion, becoming a skilled pastel artist. He specialized in evocative drawings of the American Southwest, a region he deeply admired. Though he lived in many places throughout his life, Ed often said his favorite was Arizona, a place that clearly fueled his artistic spirit.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Starr Trotter; his parents, Carl and Mildred Hofacre Trotter; and his daughter, Rebecca Margaret Trotter.
He is survived by his children, C. Griffin Trotter and Amy Trotter Jarecki; his step-children, Pamela Thomas and Kimberly Moss; and his grandchildren, Orion, Shane, Griffin, and Moriah. Ed’s kindness, wisdom, and artistic legacy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church (111 9th Street North, La Crosse) with Military Honors to follow.
